How to Submit Photos

CARE for Sandy values all inquiries. Our inbox is very full, but we promise to respond to all families who are seeking help as soon as possible. Please visit Photo Submission FAQ for additional essential info. Click here to join our mailing list. Thanks for your patience!

I can provide my own high-resolution, scanned photo(s). What now?

So you'd like to scan an image at your local FedEx Kinko's? Borrow a scanner belonging to a family friend? Utilize a web-based scanning archival vendor such as Fotobridge, DigmyPics or ScanMyPhotos? Impressive! You've made our jobs easier and have ensured that your damaged photo(s) make it to our adoption albums all the quicker. What now?

Please do NOT immediately e-mail your digital scans. We'll be assessing needs on an individual basis, and will let you know how to best scan/submit your images after we've received your basic inquiry, as we have specific technical requisites.

We're have a limited-availability, *one-on-one family/volunteer 'adoption' program, wherein volunteers who happen to live in your neighborhood may offer to pick up/redeliver your photo(s) for on or off-premise scanning. We also have numerous well-wishers around the country who have offered to pay for shipping of your insured originals, which will be scanned and returned by insured mail as well. You may also hand-deliver your photos to one of our staff members or a volunteer. As it's quite inexpensive to have your images professionally scanned, please resort to this option only if you've experienced severe financial hardships.

Areas which receive the greatest number of submission inquiries will likely be the first to host CARE Scanning Events. Once your preliminary information has been logged, CARE for Sandy will send notification when a CARE Scanning Event becomes scheduled within reasonable travel distance. We also suggest checking our Calendar page from time to time, which lists potential upcoming locations where we intend to offer FREE on-premise scanning.

Also consider contacting online vendors such as Fotobridge, DigmyPics and ScanMyPhotos which will batch scan hundreds of photos at once. The New York Times posted this great article on bulk scanning services. Bulk scanning is surprisingly affordable!
